Appearance: White or slightly yellow waxy solid or flake, with a pleasant odor and a fatty taste. Soluble in hot organic solvents such as ether, benzene, a-c-e-t-o-n-e, and mineral oil, insoluble in water. But in the presence of a small amount of surfactant, it can disperse in hot water. LD50 (mouse, abdominal cavity) 200mg/kg. The product is often a mixture of glycerol monostearate and glycerol monostearate. Relative density 0.97. Monoglycerides are oil-in-water emulsifiers that emulsify in hot water after strong shaking.

Purpose: Biochemical research. Thickening of margarine, solvents for oils and waxes, emulsifiers, protectants for hygroscopic powders, and opaque shading agents. Gas chromatography stationary phase (maximum operating temperature 125 ºC, solvent is hot ethanol), separation and analysis of oxygen-containing compounds and volatile oils
