Product Introduction:

Transferrin is the main iron transfer protein in plasma, providing the necessary iron for cellular internalization and metabolism. Research has found that all cell growth is inseparable from transferrin. Not only does maintaining normal cellular metabolism rely on iron in its biologically active form, but iron is also a cofactor of some enzymes, such as RNA polymerase and DNA synthase. It is also an important component of hemoglobin.

Transferrin is a plasma glycoprotein isolated from plasma. Bovine transferrin exists in two molecular forms with molecular weights of 74KD and 78KD, respectively. Each transferrin molecule can bind two molecules of iron ions through the C-terminus and N-terminus structural sites, so transferrin exists in three forms: deiron (not bound to iron ions), saturated iron (bound to two molecules of iron ions), and partially saturated. Under physiological conditions, only one-third of transferrin molecules are saturated with iron.

Transferrin is essential for the growth of the vast majority of cell lines in serum-free medium, and studies have shown that saturated iron form transferrin is the most effective form for promoting cell growth. For hybridoma, adherent cells, and suspension cell lines, the concentration of transferrin in the culture medium should be maintained between 0.5-100 μ g/ml during the cell culture process. For different cell lines, it is necessary to choose the most suitable concentration.

Transferrin freeze-dried powder needs to be stored in a refrigerated state and dissolved before use. Generally, PBS or other suitable solvents are used to dissolve transferrin freeze-dried powder into a storage solution at room temperature, with a concentration of 0.5-2.0mg/ml, and then filtered using sterile filter membranes. The filtrate can be stored at 2-8 ºC under sterile conditions for 30 days.
